Golden Island on Friday (23 January) said it has achieved another significant milestone with the successful completion of Singapore’s first methanol bunkering operation on 20 January 2026 since the issuance of methanol bunkering licences by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), effective 1 January 2026.
The operation was carried out by Golden Island’s first of four IMO Type 2 oil/ chemical tankers, M.T. GOLDEN ANTARES. The vessel supplied 300 metric tonnes of methanol to M.V. BRAVE PIONEER, an 81,000 DWT dual-fuel bulk carrier owned by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and chartered by Cargill. The vessel was recently delivered in the Philippines and bunkered in Singapore before commencing its maiden voyage to Europe.
The transaction was contracted between Golden Island and Mitsui & Co. Energy Ltd., and it was achieved by cooperating with Cargill and MPA.
The bunkering operation was executed in full compliance with Technical Reference 129 (TR129), meeting requirements for safety management, custody transfer, digital documentation, and Mass Flow Meter accuracy. Before the operation, HAZID and HAZOP workshops were conducted to identify and mitigate operational risks. M.T. GOLDEN ANTARES also completed Mass Flow Meter (MFM) acceptance testing, and electronic Bunker Delivery Note (e-BDN) trials were carried out to confirm readiness for methanol bunkering documentation.
Ofiniti provided digital documentation support for the operation, enabling MPA- and TR129-compliant issuance and exchange of e-BDNs.
Golden Island continues to develop its sustainable fuel delivery capabilities through its purpose-built fleet. This includes M.T. GOLDEN ANTARES classed by Bureau Vertias – delivered in the third quarter of 2025, M.T. GOLDEN SIRIUS – delivered in the fourth quarter of 2025, M.T. GOLDEN CENTAURUS – scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026, and M.T. GOLDEN CARINA – expected in the second quarter of 2026.
