Singapore-based bunker supplier Global Energy Trading Pte Ltd (Global Energy) recently completed two methanol bunker deliveries, one at the Singapore anchorage and another under SIMOPS (simultaneous operations) at PSA’s Pasir Panjang Terminal.
The deliveries conducted by Singapore-flagged bunker tanker KARA were 3,000 metric tonnes (mt) each; marking the largest single parcel of methanol delivered in Singapore since licensing started to segregate methanol bunkering from conventional bunkering from 1 January 2026, it told Manifold Times.
In 2023, Global Energy was the first bunkering firm to introduce IMO type 2 tankers for bunkering methanol as marine fuel at Singapore port; to date the fleet have supplied over 10,000 mt of methanol product to receiving vessels in Singapore.
The experience gathered from handling bio-methanol, blended methanol, and grey methanol has portrayed the group as a competent supplier in this field, resulting in the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) granting the company a licence to supply methanol as marine fuel at Singapore.
In 2026, Global Energy will expand its fleet with two more IMO type 2 tankers. The new generation 8,000 dwt bunkering tankers will have stainless steel tanks and high cubic capacity with each being capable of delivering up to 7,000 mt of methanol in a single shipment.
