Shandong Port has completed two ship-to-ship bunkering operations with a total of 2,500 metric tonnes (mt) of methanol for two international ships, according to Qingdao Maritime Safety Administration on Tuesday (3 March).
Bunkering vessel JIAN HANG LI DA delivered the methanol to COSCO SHIPPING GEMINI and MV CHANG MING at Qianwan port area of Qingdao Port at Shandong Port.
This marked the first time such operations were carried out using a model of one bunker vessel supplying multiple vessels.
It also signified that Shandong Port Group has officially established a complete green methanol supply chain from manufacturing to transportation and storage and then port bunkering, becoming the first port in Northern China to achieve a full-chain green methanol bunkering service for ships.
The green methanol used in this bunkering operation was produced within Shandong Province and is ISCC EU certified bio-methanol.
