The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Wednesday (31 December) said it has detained an oil tanker for anchoring without permission off Port Klang.
Selangor MMEA director Maritime Capt Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the tanker was detained at 3pm about 0.9 nautical miles west of Klang port following a complaint from Port Klang Authority.
The inspection found that the vessel was operated by a captain along with four crew members, all Indonesians, aged between 21 and 59.
“All the crew have valid identification documents but the ship’s captain failed to produce any document authorising anchoring and is suspected of committing offence under Section 491B (1) (l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952,” Abdul Muhaimin added.
He added that the captain of the tanker was taken to the Selangor Maritime headquarters to assist in further investigations.
