The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Sunday (8 February) said it detained a tanker found carrying about 50 metric tonnes (mt) of diesel valued nearly MYR 180,000 (USD 45,854).
Melaka and Negri Sembilan MMEA director Maritime Capt Salehuddin Zakaria said the ship was detained by a MMEA patrol boat while conducting an operation, about one nautical mile southwest of Pulau Melaka.
“The inspection found the vessel was carrying about 50 mt of fuel, believed to be diesel, without valid documents and it was operated by five crew of Indonesian citizens aged between 21 and 62,” he said.
He added the captain failed to present a purchase invoice and did not declare the cargo in the port clearance documents.
Capt Salehuddin said the vessel has been detained and the case is being investigated under Customs Act 1967 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods without a valid permit and failure to comply with cargo declaration regulations.
